IS REIKI A MASSAGE?
No, Reiki is not massage. There are many massage therapists who are also Reiki practitioners; however, I am not a massage therapist.
Reiki is offered by way of the practitioner placing their hands on or slightly above the client's body (depending on the client's comfort level) in various positions from head to toe. There is no physical manipulation involved. Clothing remains on.
This is done differently for animals. Many animals prefer Reiki 'hands off.' The sensation might be a little too intense for some animals in the beginning. In those cases Reiki is offered from a short distance - usually palms up in my lap or above the body. I have found that once an animal has experienced Reiki a couple of times, they may enjoy 'hands on.' Each animal is different of course (and so is each session.)
WILL REIKI HEAL AN ILLNESS OR SAVE AN ANIMAL OR PERSON FROM DYING?
Healing takes on many forms and doesn’t necessarily mean a physical “cure.” Reiki has given many animals and people wonderful and miraculous healing results. No one can say for certain if it will do that for everyone for we are each on our own unique life's journey. We are not always privy to the larger scheme of things. However, in many cases Reiki may offer peace and comfort, as well as relief from pain and symptoms.
If an animal or person is close to passing on, Reiki may help to ease the way more peacefully and sometimes more quickly.
DO I NEED TO KNOW YOUR MEDICAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL HISTORY?
If you have concerns you wish to share with me, you certainly may; however Reiki appears to go where it is needed like a magnet whether I know about it or not. I literally can be touching your head, and the energy will travel to your lower back if that is where you need it most. Many people have physically felt this amazing aspect of Reiki.
CAN I DIAGNOSE YOUR CONDITION?
No, I am not a doctor with a medical license. However, I may get impressions as I am in session with you or your animal that I will share; such as: where the energy is flowing/pulling strongest, sensations in my hands as I scan the body, intuitions that may pop up, etc.
I have personally seen a mystery condition suddenly get diagnosed by a doctor after a Reiki session. Reiki may be working in ways we humans don't always comprehend.
WHAT IS A HEALING REACTION?
Sometimes after (or during) energy work of any kind, a client may experience a worsening of symptoms (called a healing reaction or crisis) before improving. It is said this sometimes occurs as toxins are released from the physical body and energy imbalances are released from the energetic body. It is advisable that the client drinks plenty of water throughout the 48 hours following a session to help flush the body of toxins. Animals seem to know this intrinsically, and increase their water intake automatically after a session.
Don't feel left out if you do not experience a healing reaction. Many people do not. Know that Reiki is still doing its good and perfect work. I have never experienced a physical healing reaction myself. I have experienced emotional healing reactions however.
WHO CAN BECOME A REIKI PRACTITIONER/MASTER?
Anyone! To me this is the beauty of Reiki. We can not have too many Reiki practitioners in the world. I recently spoke to someone who felt that they could/should not be a Reiki practitioner because they were not "healed" enough and were not spiritually perfect. None of us are. Reiki is first and foremost a self-healing modality. Remember, we are merely conduits of Reiki. It is not our personal energy.
HOW DOES ONE BECOME "ATTUNED" TO REIKI?
"Though humans are born with the ability to channel energy for healing, to develop this skill successfully large amounts of energy need to be generated in the body. During a Reiki course a student receives an attunement or reiju [spiritual blessing] from the teacher initiating a shift in the student's energy. This shift is a clearing of energy: freeing the flow of energy through the body aiding the cultivation of personal Ki. Simultaneously the student begins to purposefully move Ki in the body during meditation and the practicing of techniques. Together the student and teacher are laying the foundations for a lifetime practice. There are countless energetic shifts throughout one's life. Practicing this system helps move through them swiftly, clearing energy that may otherwise have remained stagnant," says Bronwen and Frans Stiene authors of 'The Japanese Art of Reiki' and 'The Reiki Sourcebook.'
IS REIKI A RELIGION?
While Reiki is very spiritual, it is not a religion and has no dogma. It does not require faith or belief of any kind to learn and use it. It does not conflict with any religion or spiritual practice.
Sometimes Christians have questions whether or not Reiki conflicts with their religion. I would always tell you to use your own discernment in these matters and draw your own conclusions. Also, you may want to visit a website dedicated to these concerns: www.christianreiki.org .
